Sodium ↔ Salt Converter

Labels list sodium, salt or both. Salt = sodium × 2.5. Enter salt in grams or sodium in milligrams and the other fills in. It runs entirely in your browser; nothing you type is sent or stored.

Worked example: 480 mg sodium × 2.5 = 1200 mg = 1.2 g salt. Going back, 2 g salt ÷ 2.5 = 0.8 g = 800 mg sodium.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert sodium to salt?

Multiply sodium by 2.5. For example, 480 mg of sodium is 1200 mg, or 1.2 g, of salt. To go the other way, divide salt by 2.5.

Why is there more salt than sodium?

Salt is sodium chloride, so sodium is only part of its weight. The factor 2.5 turns the weight of sodium into the weight of salt.

Can I skip typing the label?

Yes. Nyamly, an iPhone app that is free to download, reads a product's nutrition facts straight from its barcode, so there is no manual entry and no photographing a label.
